Gene Sherer

Gene grew up in a rural area in Northeast Ohio on a farm. His early metal and woodworking skills originated from the early years of farming. There were always new items to make, to fix and repair. After college, Gene began working in the steel and fabrication industry, fitting and welding with a wide variety of applications. He worked with huge steel mill ductwork to medium size tanks and small brackets. During the early and mid 80's, Gene became involved in doing juried craft shows along the Eastern part of the U.S. He made wooden, educational toys and furniture, then branched into unusual boxes that did not appear as a box, such as his chest of drawers. After moving to Virginia, he worked as a Quality Assurance Manager at a precision sheet metal company for 25 years, while doing minor wood projects on the side. Upon retirement, in 2013, Gene and his wife moved to Kingman, Arizona. He immediately began exploring Kingman and fell in love with its natural beauty. During the pandemic, Gene set up a woodworking shop and returned to his passion of wood and metal working. His initial start began with making wood/metal furniture and keepsake boxes for his wife. This became a passion and desire to make wooden boxes and chests with crushed stone inlays.
